The 21st of april 2002 was the day of the first round of the french presidential elections. When the results were announced, and when I know that the right wing fascist Jean-Marie Lepen was selected, I was averwhelmed by so many emotions. The film tries to answer those moments, my answer to the deep existential crisis the I then whent throught. How to keep on going, how to fight, how to exist as an artist today...

Après un feu de cheminée
2mn31   color   stereo   2002   France
by Céline Clottes

The character comes to make love, she's just alone. Still impregnated with this act, the body, not standing with the soul, commits to memory with pain that has just happened. The editing \ mixing of twelve positions who scroll the ones after the others frame by frame is an attempt to illustrate a memory in de-construction; the body tenfold artificially tempting to fill the absence of the other.

Curtains
15mn   color   stereo   2002   France
by Sébastien More

I wanted to film the forest as if it was the only possible world, a world which would be less of a reinvention than a withdrawal, to assist in its tumbling and capture the nudity. Each branch, each drop and each refection becomes therefore the receptacle of a living earth where the membranes swollen with light pulsate a sort of pantheist celebration. One had to therefore become child, become animal, to scatter for the most brutal reality bears properly phantasmagoric visions, then finally attain what is real via the biggest aesthetic violence. Not through a story but an itinerary, a palpable adventure, an experience.

Délices
10mn   color   stereo   2002   France
by Gérard Cairaschi

"Délices" plays on the overlapping of images which, through the pulse of rapid editing, interweave in a graphic and colourful shimmer. Those fluid images combine a body with natural elements in a slow and continuous camera movement. A journey between images, between two worlds, that is symbolically represented by the presence of fish as a link between the surface and the unknown depths of the liquid element : between the conscious and the unconscious.

5mn   color   stereo   2003   Japan

Made for the Opening piece of "Seing/Hearing/Speaking", realizing a sentence of French philosopher, Jacques Derrida : "I hear myself at the same time that I hear." What Derrida concerns is "Hearing / Speaking", but I extended to "Seeing" combining all three perceptions together. The Opening section deals with "Seeing" including the sentences as "I see you", "I am not seen", which are superimposed over the pictures of a face, eyes, and a face in the frames, etc. All the frame shots.

La caméra aveugle, la pensée captive
2mn50   color   stereo   2002   France
by Suzel Roche

This video is a littlt movie about an extract of consideration on what mean "to see" or "to be blind". With the light of Ghérasim Luca, a rouman poet, I speak about a battle of camera : two people are face to face, they both shot the people in face, like a mirror. Their camera are blind because their thought are caught, "like everything which turns around itself,... which turns around Goodness and Badness".

"La couleur du Rythme" explores the possibility of extending those senses beyond their limitations. La vidéo - poésie
3mn55   color & b/w   stereo   2001   France
by Émilie Anthouard

For the realisation of this video, my method was to first of all choose a poem : "Discours pour les grandes jours d'un jeune homme appelé Picasso" d'Aragon. The final objective was to find a structure, codes proper to the video which would permit the establishment of a new form of poetry. The interest shown in artists writing has influenced this choice. My aim is not to propose an illustration of Aragons' poetic text, even less to plate him with images. But, by video, I try to reproduce with the spectator the effects, the emotions which a poetic text produces in its reader. I therefore transcribed this poem into images without going via illustration which heads back to the idea of copy.

La vie des objets
11mn15   color   stereo   2001   France
by Boris Du Boullay

This video is divided into 6 parts (The objects I to VI) presents six variations of the objects, our way of looking and living with them. It is an invitation to have empathy for the object by providing the time to look; and to interrogate the traditional aspect of objects in film - and of film itself as an object.

Le Patient
11mn10   color   stereo   2002   France
by Clément Zerbola (Hellaimorth)

The video "Le Patient" is a personal statement which came to exorcise the mortal illness from which suffered my father-in-law. I made it for my personal practice in the second semester of my license year in Visual Arts. This short film criticises the helplessness of medicine and translates plastically the obsession, the hope of short term life. Briefly, the tentative to flee and little by little the closing in of the sick person unto himself. A prisoner of his pain, the patient is going to fatally suffer a return to the anticipated void. Minimalist video of which the efficiency was probing up to here, "Le Patient" is above all a visceral production to be watched alone in the dark and with a high sonic volume. In ideal circumstances, media should become physical...trying.

Le seuil du captif
10mn44   color   sil   2003   France
by Gilles Gonzalez

Suppress the epidermic instant of the support, to make a place which witnesses more of the flesh than the skin. Here, the image anchors into a support resolutely refractor, because the rapport between the two of them rises from dialogue and no longer from thinking. Act on the support as on the image, to arrange the conditions of an encounter which owes nothing to either.

M3
7mn   b/w   stereo   2002   Switzerland
by Stéphane Darioly

The title "M3" is the name of the music by Maurizio used in the film. My aim was to visually represent the rhythmic structure of the piece by isolating each of the sounds. The work proposes four different ways of regrouping these sounds so that they can be easily perceived on the screen. For example : First system : Rectangles running from left to right, their size, their duration and their place of appearance are defined by their rhythmic structure in the heart of the piece. The "clap" is worth two beats (whole note) it's size is therefore twice the "boom" and is situated just above it, and as follows for the rest of the sounds.

14mn50   color   stereo   2002   France

The short movie "We are all Palestinian people" follows the rhythm of a pro-palestinian demonstration which takes place in Marseille. It was "the day of the land" and the mood in full streets were made by contasts : slowness of a walk, activities of a Saturday afternoon, Fatality of the flourished pictures. The point of view is demonstrator's one. There is not editing : just the rushes with their own logic meeting at random, the "intestinal" music of David Byrne.

Sampleur et sans reproche
11mn30   color & b/w   stereo   2003   France
by Thierry Polo-Pardise

"sampleur et sans reproche" is the title of this short film video, and it is, or almost is the title of piece by OPAK ("sans peur et sans reproche") used in the sound track. The work presented here is a precise re-editing of "virages", a one hour film projected during the OPAK concert in Beaubourg the 13/12/02 in the framework of the exhibition Sonic-Process. My working of visual forms is tightly linked to sonic form workings of the OPAK musicians...Never the less, it is not a question of a video mix, neither that of a simple image/music synchronisation. It is a relation so shot/duration, internal/external rhythmics, of editing and consequently of cinematographic language. I therefore searched for an interaction between visual and sonic landscapes that mutually enriched each other, in order to produce a new sense, a new sensation, unedited, erupting from their confrontation rather than a simple ..... sound/image.
